No, Serf is more correct. Mormonism is as much a form of Christianity as Christianity is a form of Judaism. My parents, or at least my mom, was Mormon my entire childhood. The nail in the coffin for me religiously might've been my dad converting-- or maybe, if both parents actually went to church every week, it might've made it easier to believe in-- what with "don't work on Sundays," rules have tended to always be a thing for everyone other than my dad. But it's actually more like Islam. Islam is actually pretty similar entirely to Mormonism, though any faithful Mormon would deny it. They're Christians but they have a lot more reading material added on top of the Bible.

I don't know if the Muslim public conciousness actually killed Salman Rushdie but there was a whole political campaign aimed at talking about him like he's an antichrist and hoping that he dies and to throw his ridiculous book, The Satanic Verses, off the shelves.
